Newell Brands is proud to enter its seventh year as a member of the Society of Women Engineers (SWE), an organization focused on giving women engineers a unique place and voice within the engineering industry.

Our Atlanta, GA and Huntersville, NC locations support local chapters that host events, volunteering and networking opportunities throughout the year.

Both SWE chapters celebrated International Women in Engineering Week this June. In Atlanta, SWE members partnered with the Sandy Springs Education Force to assemble school supply kits filled with Sharpie®, EXPO®, Paper Mate® and Elmer’s® products. Each kit also includes a note for the student introducing the employee who packed it and a brief description of their role to encourage students to learn about different career paths. Members of the Atlanta chapter also previously served on a judging panel for the SWE Technical Showcase at the Georgia Institute of Technology and sponsored an evening of networking with Auburn 100+ Women Strong, an organization at the Samuel Ginn College of Engineering at Auburn University.

SWE members in Huntersville partnered with Classroom Central's Kits for a Cause by donating school supplies kits and delivering them to the “Free Teacher Store,” a resource to provide educators with classroom essentials. Earlier this year, members also visited the Lake Norman Charter School’s after-school career club to teach children about engineering opportunities and share how Newell’s engineers were involved in making Elmer’s Squishies.

“I think fondly of our Newell SWE group as it connected me with other women engineers across our large company—connections I might not have made otherwise. Most importantly, SWE also opens doors to volunteer outreach opportunities at local middle schools and colleges, allowing me to give back and inspire the next generation of girls and women in STEM,” said Camila Luppi Sato, Senior Product Development Engineer at Newell Brands.

This fall, for the seventh year, Newell Brands is a proud corporate sponsor and exhibitor at the 2024 SWE Conference, the largest of its kind for women in engineering and technology. Newell will have a booth to speak to attendees at the conference’s career fair about opportunities in engineering and technology. Conference attendees will have the chance to participate in networking opportunities with other members and speaker sessions with leading experts in the field.

“Through SWE, I've gained a broader perspective on the challenges and opportunities women face in their careers. Attending the SWE Conference in 2023 was a great opportunity to network with women across the industry with different experiences and backgrounds,” said Lauren Fortier, Leader, Packaging Engineering at Newell Brands.

We’re proud to support current and future engineers who share their talent with Newell Brands.
